Crushed rock, orchard fruit and a dash of oak emerge on this linear white. On the palate, crisp acidity supports Anjou pear, yellow apple and almond while a mineral note backs up the finish.

Warboy's Vineyard

From 53-year-old organic and biodynamically farmed Grenache vines, this elegant wine could easily age for 10 years but is drinkable now. Bursting with red cherries, strawberries, herbs, vanilla and violets, the palate's ultrafine tannins are backed by juicy fruit and a long, herbal, cranberry finish.

Agira Vineyard

From a three-acre vineyard, this wine accented in 2% Petit Verdot offers a sense of gravel underneath the dark, syrupy plum and leathery tannin structure. Midway through, it exhibits cherry, raspberry and vanilla, showing a juicy underbelly that should develop further over time. Drink now through 2022.

John Lewis

It's the stem inclusion that shows itself first, with aromas of olive and herb in front of violets, red fruit, pepper, earth and whiffs of coffee and smoked meat. The flavors are reserved, supple and polished, with bright acids keeping it all in focus. It demands food alongside it to be properly appreciated.

La Brume

Flowery and balanced in crisp, dry flavors of lemon and pear, this wine takes its designation from the French word for fog, a nod to its cool-climate environs. Supple tannins and refined acidity round out the deal.

Falcoaria

Produced from 60-year-old vines, this wine has a great balance between crisp acidity and ripe yellow and white stone fruit flavors. It is rich with a touch of toast and spice from wood fermentation and aging. The wine is still young and will be better from 2018.

Anciennes Vignes

Exquisitely fresh and fruity, this delicious rosé has crisp red currant fruits that are tangy, bright and tight. It is very refreshing now, although in a few months the almost shocking acidity will soften. Drink from mid-2016.

Obsession

Honey is the key word to describe the nose and flavor of this extremely aromatic and just slightly sweet wine, which also offers notes of honeysuckle and honeydew. Winemakers often turn the grape Symphony (a cross of Muscat of Alexandria and Grenache Gris) into a sweet, dessert-style wine, but this shows how good it can be in a drier version.

Proemio

Baked plum, exotic spice and chocolate aromas almost jump out of the glass. The brawny palate doles out prune, blackberry jam, licorice and tobacco alongside round, velvety tannins. A raisin note backs up the finish.

Pendulum

This tasty blend of 60% Syrah and 40% Grenache offers blueberry, olallieberry, gamy goat meat and minty cola on the ever-so-slightly reductive nose. The palate picks up a bit of tar as well as cooked beef and pork, served in a sauce of elderberry and blackberry fruits.

This is an unusual blend of 72% Syrah with the rest equal parts Mourvèdre and Cabernet Sauvignon. It largely works, with aromas of black pepper, cocoa, coffee, herbs and brown spices. The cranberry and meat flavors offer a sense of balance and restraint along with a pleasing mouthfeel and flavors that linger.

The Brothers

Marked by passion fruit and pineapple, with a bit of honey included in the mix, this is beginning to broaden out and lose a little bit of its vitality yet still remains attractive. Drink this medium-bodied wine before the end of 2014.

Aporia

Lightly smoked stone fruit and apple blossoms greet the nose on this bottling of 50% Marsanne and 50% Grenache Blanc. The palate is much more interesting, with lemon sorbet and ripe apples clinging to a steely centerline that shows flashes of flint and gunmetal.

Gran Reserva Triumpheros

Vanilla and leesy aromas create a reticent bouquet. This feels plump, chunky and oily at first, but more cut and precise with time. Green apple, canned green bean and bell pepper flavors turn more spicy and in the direction of jalapeño on the finish.
